I'm cautiously optimistic about the future. I'll be ready and willing to celebrate when that day comes, but not this year. It was fun reading your memories. They were a good reminder that happier days are possible.
Sadly I think there are many folks feeling that way. However, I am enjoying being able to see the international tall ships & fly-overs on news programs this a.m. And some of those drone light-shows are truly amazing.
Another poignant reflection, Beverley, at a time when so many blatantly foolish and many would say illegal decisions are being made in your capital. It does change the way one might feel about a national celebration, for sure.

Mom is still amazing. I visit as often as I can. She tells me I can't be her daughter because I'm too old! That's what I get for stopping coloring my roots!!

I feel this too. I have memories of the excitement of the bicentennial. I was in 4th grade but remember it well. This year feels like a flop for sure.
